The Girl and the Magic of the Weather (book excerpt)

That day, the family was planning to go to the lake with their friends. Ivy had been waiting for it so much! She had packed her ball and her brand-new picture book.

Everyone was busy getting ready for the picnic when suddenly, it started to rain.

Ivy pressed her forehead against the cool glass, watching gloomily as the rain soaked the yard. Everything looked gray and dull. This was the day she had been waiting for, and now the picnic at the lake was at risk.

“What awful weather! It ruined everything!” she sighed, stepping away from the window.

Her mother came over and placed a warm hand on her shoulder.

“The rain will be over soon, my sunshine. See those big bubbles in the puddles? That’s a sure sign it’s almost finished.”

“But now there are puddles everywhere,” Ivy pouted. “And my new picture book might get wet! The best weather in the world is when the sun is shining!”

Just then, Grandma came to the window, carrying a mug of fragrant tea.
